Dave Rodriguez
Writer/Director/Producer and New York native Dave Rodriguez wrote, directed and produced "Push" which starred Chad Lindberg, Michael Rapaport and Academy Award nominee Chazz Palminteri. He also directed a short entitled "She Kills He" in 2005 and a series of commercials. "Push" won the "Audience Award" at The Method Fest, "Best Director" at the Long Island International Film Festival and was one of six domestic features selected by HBO's NY International Latino Film Festival in 2006 respectively. "She Kills He" won "Best Short" at the Miami International Short Film Festival in 2005.
Dave has quickly built a reputation as one of the hardest working filmmakers in Hollywood; a lesson he learned long ago. Born in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx in New York, Dave was influenced at a very early age by music and film. Dave attended the elite New York Military Academy and graduated in 1988. Developing an interest in entertainment, Dave broke into the music business first at just 16 years of age, as a producer with Paul "DJ Ice" Jennings and Eli Tubo at Power Play studios in Long Island City, N.Y.. In 1997, Dave enrolled in the "Actors Conservatory" in Hollywood where he studied dramatic arts.
Dave currently makes his home in New York and Los Angeles.

Q: How did She Kills He come to life?
Henry: After I finished writing the script, I wanted to find a director that was willing to take the risk of telling this story with me. I spoke to almost a hundred directors, professionals, students, all sorts of people. I then met with Dave Rodriguez, and I couldn't believe that he wanted to direct me and my film right after working with Academy Award nominee Chazz Palminteri. After meeting with Dave, together we got the ball rolling he introduced me to Caroline O'Brien of Broadview Entertainment who put together the most amazing crew. Paul Ben-Victor (True Romance, and Daredevil) also came on board. It could not have been possible with out the Executive Producer Anthony Spinello.
Q: What was your inspiration for writing She Kills He?
Henry: I wanted to tell a love story. Derrik and Mimi from societies perspective should never cross each others path, none the less experience a romance. The conflict is within themselves, in order to truly love they need to give up there own insecurities. Something that's more easily said than done. I also wanted to make sure to have this love flourish in the midst of Miami's grittiest area. An area that's never really captured on film. The inspiration for the title came from an artist by the same name. I just thought that it was perfect for the film, it was loaded with so much relevance to this story.
Q: What were some challenges while shooting the movie?
Henry: There were so many moments were I thought it wasn't going to happen. Five days before shooting we lost our Director of Photography and we didn't have a camera to shoot on. A day before shooting was set to start our lead actor dropped out, through text message. I learned so much from this whole thing.
Q: You are not only the writer, but also the lead character, Mimi, a male to female transgender. How did you prepare for this role?
Henry: I did an incredible amount of research, read books, documentaries, movies, anything I can get my hands on. I was most concerned about being as true and honest to what I learned in my research. As far as physically, I got a full body wax including my face, hair extensions, and acrylic nails. It was very painful, and most definitely worth it. I make sure to be as committed as possible to any role I take on.
Q: What's next for She Kills He?
Henry: We hope to continue taking it to various film festivals around the world. I am presently in the process of working on the feature length script presently titled, me. me., which explores Mimi and Derrik's relationship and stories on a completely different level.
Q: Anything else you'd like to share?
Henry: Yes! For more info on our film, please visit the official website at www.shekillshemovie.com, or check out our MySpace page, myspace.com/shekillshemovie
