Las Vegas is an interesting dichotomy. It takes a strip of desert and combines world-class architecture, shopping and cuisine to attract visitors to its casinos. For the most part, this attracts rowdy guys who cruise the strip carrying strawberry daiquiris in oversized plastic funnels and garish folks in acting out. Yes, generally speaking, Vegas is not the gayest place on earth. It's where straight people go to whoop it up, and in America that doesn't always bode well for gay people.
But if straight folks can invade Vegas en masse, why can't we? I advise loading up the car with your best friends for a rockstar weekend of sin and debauchery. Truthfully, however, for gay people who could easily hit up their local gay bar for a bit of trashy fun, Vegas is more a place where you can relax--check out a couple nice restaurants or enjoy one of the spas. See Celine Dion live. She's such a treasure. Shop 'til you're silly. Frankly, take away the skin bars and tackiness, and Las Vegas becomes a lovely suburban getaway suitable for a group of friends or family. Sure, you love Vegas for its gawdy, bawdy ways. But there's much more to be found.
